Ruwais Refinery Expansion Ruwais Sulphur Recovery Unit
The project’s scope of work involves the construction of sulphur recovery unit with a capacity of 50 tonnes per day located at Ruwais Abu Dhabi. The unit will recover sulfur from hydrogen sulfide-rich gas produced in the Hydroxide sulphurization and Unibon units by converting it into elemental sulphur through a thermal and catalytic reaction. The liquid sulphur is then sent to the Sulphur Handling Terminal for granulation and export.
The project is part of Ruwais Refinery which produces liquefied petroleum gas premium unleaded gasoline (98 Octane) and special unleaded gasoline (95 Octane). It also produces naphtha, aviation turbine fuel (Jet-A1), kerosene, gas oil and granulated sulphur and bunker fuel. The key and challenging objective of the new refinery is to maximize the production of Propylene and distillates like jet fuel, gas oil with minimum residue levels and gasoline, thus allowing Takreer to meet the demand of the local and the international markets.
The project also includes Sulphur Recovery Unit 1106, installation of furnaces, installation of converters, installation of sulphur condensers, installation of sulfur pit, installation of pumps, installation of knock out drum and associated facilities.
