Expanded Clay
Expanded clay aggregate is a commonly used hydroponic grow medium. It is a lightweight aggregate that is heated in a kiln oven to a temperature of 2,910 degrees Fahrenheit (1,200 degrees Celsius). Once the aggregate is heated, it releases gases, which create small bubbles that make a honeycomb-like structure inside of the aggregate.
It is available in 50 litre bags, making insulated foundations which comply with Part L of Building Regulations, a simple, one man process.What is really ingenious about Leca® Insulation Fill is that it is stored in the bag, collected and transported in the bag, laid in the site in the bag and covered in concrete still in the bag.
Supplied in 50 litre (15 kg) bags making it easy to use and transport
Chemically neutral and does not contain any environmentally harmful constituents. It is safe to handle and does not need any special protective clothing or special requirements for disposal
Minimal labour required, saving time and expense
Depths of up to 3m can be achieved
Thermal insulation that complies with recommended U-value requirements of the Part L Building Regulations
For deeper foundations, Leca® Insulation Fill can be blown directly from a vehicle into the void from a distance of 50 metres
A 40m2 base can be prepared in just one hour using Leca® Insulation Fill compared to the two days required when using hardcore and polystyrene insulation
It almost eliminates the need for heavy lorry journeys thanks to the extraordinary lightweight properties of Leca® Insulation Fill
