The Passat GTE Variant is one of the few estate cars in its class with plug-in hybrid drive. Propulsion is provided by a turbo petrol engine (TSI) and an electric motor (system output 160 kW / 218 PS03. The Passat GTE Variant can be driven in locally emissions-free in E-mode for a distance of up to 56 kilometres. Whenever possible, the TSI is also temporarily switched off and separated from the powertrain so as to harness the car’s kinetic energy (“coasting”). By the way, the plug-in-hybrid Passat GTE can also be ordered with a trailer hitch and is therefore fully suitable for everyday use.
